Access your email from Bing Bar

The Mail button on Bing Bar allows you to preview the latest email messages in your Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, or Outlook.com inbox and receive email alerts.

Add and remove email accounts from Bing Bar

After you set up your existing email account to work with Bing Bar, Bing Bar will automatically check for new mail every ten minutes.

Set up your email account to work with Bing Bar

  1. Click the Mail button Mail on Bing Bar.

  2. Click the name of your e-mail account provider.

  3. Type the user name and password for your e-mail account.

  4. Click Submit.

Add another email account to Bing Bar

You can add more than one email account to Bing Bar, and use the Mail button to preview the email in each account separately.

  1. Click the Mail button Mail on Bing Bar.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Click the name of your e-mail account provider.

  5. Type the user name and password for your e-mail account.

  6. Click Submit.

Remove an email account from Bing Bar

  1. Click the Mail button Mail on Bing Bar.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Select the account that you no longer want to access with Bing Bar.

  4. Click Remove.

Manage your email from Bing Bar

After you’ve set up one or more email accounts to work with Bing Bar, you can use the Mail button on Bing Bar to see your latest emails, go to your inbox, open a specific email message in your browser, delete email, and compose new email.

Preview your latest emails

  1. Click the Mail button Mail on Bing Bar.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the Mail flyout, click the icon for the e-mail account you want. The icons display the number of unread messages in each inbox.

  3. The most recent email messages received by the email account are listed. Do one or more of the following:

    • To open a message in your Internet browser window, click it in the message list.

    • To check for new mail, in the upper-right corner of the Mail flyout, click the Refresh button Refresh.

    • To change which email account’s messages are displayed by default when you click the Mail button, click Options. Select the email account that you want, click the up arrow button until the account is at the top of the list, and then click Close.

Compose an email

  1. Click the Mail button Mail on Bing Bar.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the Mail flyout, click the icon for the e-mail account you want.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the Mail flyout, click the Compose button Compose.

Delete an email

  1. Click the Mail button Mail on Bing Bar.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the Mail flyout, click the icon for the e-mail account you want.

  3. Point to the message that you want to delete, and then click the red X icon that appears to the left of the message.

Open your inbox in your browser

  1. Click the Mail button Mail on Bing Bar.

  2. In the upper-left corner of the Mail flyout, click the icon for the e-mail account you want.

  3. At the top of the Mail flyout, click the name of your email account.

Troubleshoot problems with the Mail button

“Please provide access to your webmail account” error message with a Gmail account

If you receive this error message when you try to use a Gmail account with Bing Bar, you may need to enable IMAP for your account on the Gmail website.

  1. Sign in to your Gmail account on http://mail.google.com.

  2. In the upper-right corner, click Settings

  3. Click the Forward and POP/IMAP tab.

  4. Select Enable IMAP, and then click Save Changes.

  5. Try to use your Gmail account with Bing Bar again.

“Your email can't be retrieved right now” error message

If you receive this error message in Bing Bar when you add an email account, you may have entered your user name or password incorrectly, or changed your password since you added the account to Bing Bar.

  1. Click the Mail button Mail on Bing Bar.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Click the email account that’s causing the issue.

  4. Click Edit.

  5. Re-type your user name and password for the email account.

  6. Click Submit.

  • By default, Bing Bar shows an alert below the Bing Bar search box when you receive a new email. To turn off notifications, click the Mail button Mail, and then click Options. Clear the Enable mail alerts check box, and then click Close.
