See road maps from Bing Bar

With the Maps button on Bing Bar, you can see road and aerial maps from Bing Maps. Get traffic information, map addresses, and driving directions — all without leaving the web page you’re on.

See maps

  1. Click the Maps button Maps on Bing Bar.

  2. Do one or more of the following:

    • To jump to a particular location, type an address in the box above the map, and then click Search.

    • To pan the map to a new location, click and drag the map.

    • To zoom in or out, click the plus and minus buttons in the map window, or click the map and use your mouse wheel.

    • To zoom in on a particular location on the map, double-click the location.

Change the map style

  1. Click the Maps button Maps on Bing Bar.

  2. Do one or more of the following:

    • To view aerial photographs of the current map area, click Aerial. Aerial photographs are not available for all areas. If no aerial photographs are shown, try zooming the map in or out.

    • To view a road map of the current map area, click Road.

    • To overlay current traffic conditions on the map, click Traffic. Traffic data is available for most metropolitan areas.

Change your default location

  1. Click the Maps button Maps on Bing Bar.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Type the address of the location that you want to appear when you click the Maps button, such as your home address.

  4. Click Save.

Get driving directions from your default location

  1. Click the Maps button Maps on Bing Bar.

  2. Set your default location to where you want to start your journey (like your home address.)

  3. Type your destination address in the box above the map, and then click Search.

  4. The map jumps to the destination location and highlights the address you specified with a pushpin. To open the Bing Maps website and display your driving directions, point to the pushpin, and then click Get directions on Bing.

Turn recommended locations on or off

When you visit some websites, like a retailer, the Maps button on Bing Bar shows a new icon. When you see this, click the Maps button to display a relevant location, like the retailer’s closest outlet to your default location. If you don’t want Bing Bar to recommend locations in this way, you can turn recommendations off.

  1. Click the Maps button Maps on Bing Bar.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Select or clear the Map the nearest locations of the businesses whose websites I visit check box.

  4. Click Save.
